Bethel Free Will Baptist Church was started in 1967 as a Free Will Baptist Mission Church in a rented storefront building in Occoquan, VA by members of the Fairwood & Yorkshire Free Will Baptist Churches. The name Bethel was suggested by Mr. Cossie Meade one of the 36 founding members because it means "house of God".
The newly organized Church elected Rev. Elzo M. Bevan as its first Pastor and Rev. Lester Robinson as Assoc. Pastor. Mr. Cossie Meade & Mr. Curtis Stallard were ordained as Bethel's first Deacons.
