Montclair Lion's Club to Hold Charity Auction in Support of Helen Keller Day.

The Montclair Lion’s Club Charities will conduct an "eBay Online Charity Auction," to raise funds in support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Prince William County and Action in the Community Through Service (ACTS), in conjunction with Helen Keller Day, on June 1. The online-only auction kicks off on the evening of May 27th and runs for 10 days, with items donated from PGA professionals, and movie and TV stars. The Montclair Lion's Club Charities has actively supported the sight and hearing conservation and youth objectives of Lions Clubs International for nearly 25 years. The Lion’s are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. This service began when Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness" during the association's 1925 international convention. Today, in support of their international SightFirst program, Lions collect more than 5 million pairs of used eyeglasses each year. Auction organizers were also able to obtain unique “one-of-a-kind” eyeglass donations in support of their May auction. They have obtained and plan to auction the personally-owed glasses from President Gerald R. Ford, Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Peter Yarrow (from Peter, Paul & Mary), Lance Burton, Graham Kerr and Alex Trebek. Mr. Trebek glasses come along with a unique personal story about the glasses. Mr. Trebek was involved in a car accident in late January, 2004 and uninjured. Unfortunately, his glasses didn’t fair as well, and Mr. Trebek has donated them in support of the Montclair Lion’s On-Line Charity Auction.
